Scammers pretend to be South African parliament to promote token

South African Parliamentary Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo confirmed the cyberattack, saying it affected accounts on social media platform X, Facebook (NASDAQ:META) and YouTube.

“A security breach has been identified that impacted services associated with official accounts of the South African government. This resulted in the unauthorized publication of content unrelated to the work of Parliament,” Mothapo said.
The hackers used the compromised accounts to promote the ParliamentofRSA (RSATOKEN) and Ramaphosa tokens, named after President Ramaphosa. Both cryptocurrencies were launched on the Pump.fun platform in the Solana ecosystem.
The cybersecurity and social media team has blocked the compromised accounts and is investigating the incident, the parliamentary spokesman said.

Earlier, hackers made an unsuccessful attempt to use the X-account of World Liberty Financial co-founder Zach Witkoff to promote the fraudulent Barron Trump memetoken. The token was named after the son of US President Donald Trump.
